Testicular Fortitude

Speaking of terms with Roman origins, I was always a fan of this one:

It was the custom in Ancient Rome for the men to place their right hand on their testicles when taking an oath. The modern term ‘testimony’ is derived from this tradition.

I think the fear of castration would be a much stronger incentive to keep your oath than putting your hand on the Bible. Perhaps the US government should look into this…
